Bowhunter Safety Course

For those of you planning to bow hunt out of state, there will be a Bowhunters Safety Course held at the Club in May 2008. Those completing the course receive a certificate which is required to purchase a bow hunting license in many states and Canadian provinces. Club members and certified instructors Skip Minney and Paul Topham will be instructing. Class size is limited to 40 people. To register call 978-632-7648.

Clambake Crew Wanted!

John Harstad and Charlie Bliss will be running the Clam Bake on June 8, 2008. This is a big event and a good fund raiser for the club, but we need a team of volunteers to pitch in and make it happen. You'll have plenty of fun, and it's a good way to get your hours in for the year.

For tickets, information, or to volunteer, call Charlie at 323-5022 or John at 323-5782

Silver Fox

This year's 'Silver Fox' Award is presented to Terry Smith. Terry is a long-time member of the Club who has served as an officer in the past and currently acts as Chairman of the Forestry Committee. His work with our forester and loggers has helped turn Swift River Sportsman's Club into a showpiece of sound forestry management. He has been instrumental in bringing State and Federal Grant money into the Club to help support these efforts. The next time you see him, please join us in thanking him for all his hard work. If you have any questions about our forestry plans and practices, he is always willing to take the time to explain them to your satisfaction.

Rifle Range

With the passing of long time Rifle Range Chairman Ray Kapinos, two members have volunteered to assume responsibility for our facility. Dan Grondalski and Jayson Cole will be looking for help keeping our range clean and well maintained.

At the February Board of Directors meeting it was moved and passed unanimously that the Rifle Range will henceforth be known as the "Ray Kapinos Memorial Rifle Range", in honor of Ray's long years of service to the club, especially his dedicated maintenance of the outdoor shooting facility. A plaque commemorating his service will be purchased and affixed at the range in his memory.

Trap Shooting

Trap will open up on Sundays in March, weather permitting. Ed Roberge is looking for people to help run Trap on Sundays. When we return to Daylight Savings Time we may re-open on Thursday evenings if there is sufficient demand and we have the help.

Online Ticket Purchase

Club President Bob Bushorr recently announced that tickets to our dinner functions can now be purchased through our website using Paypal.

Paypal is a safe credit card exchange, which allows you to charge your purchases without giving your card information directly to sellers. Purchases show up on your monthly credit card statement.

Private Hunts

Before heading out to the lower fields, please be sure to check at the club house to be sure there are no private hunts in progress. You, your dogs, and vehicles could stray into the hunters' area accidentally. Safety is everybody's business.
